Move stop on TLT up to break-even @ $113.70 Yields have been moving steadily lower (moving TLT higher), but this morning saw a sharp reversal when the stock market opened. It’s possible that the 20-year yield has reached a short-term cycle low here already. We believe that yields have farther to fall (yields fall, bonds via TLT rally), but if they do rally sharply here we wouldn’t want to take a loss on the TLT … read more Trade Update
Sold our DAL position at $30.77 Airlines started the day off way higher, but have faded hard with the rest of the market. We’re going to lock in a profit here on this position and reduce our overall market exposure.
Bought 10% (~$4,000 model portfolio) FEZ @ $35.80 Stop @ $31.98 While the US markets didn’t begin to correct until January of this year, most European markets as represented by FEZ peaked in the spring of LAST year. As far as duration goes, the European markets have been in correction or bear market territory for much longer than the US markets have been, and it stands to reason that they might begin their next bull … read more Buy-and-Hold Portfolio Trade Alert
Bought 15% XRT @ $64.00 Stop @ $59.89 Target @ $76.00 It’s no secret that there has been a slowdown in the retail sector. That became painfully obvious when Target and Walmart both warned of excess inventory. But, the price of the sector ETF has already declined by 44% and is now showing signs of a technical bottom at the same time as the market indexes are beginning to rally. The 20-DMA has curled higher, and … read more Trade Alert
Bought 15% TLT @ $113.70 Stop @ $107.98 Target @ $126.00 US treasuries just experienced one of the most powerful sell offs in its history. The sell off may not be over, but sentiment indicators have reached extreme levels that have reliably signaled bottoms in the past. Besides being extremely oversold, it is showing signs of rallying off of previous support. As an added bonus, TLT trigged a buy signal on a daily chart.
Bought 5% (~$2,000 in model portfolio) LIT @ $74.05 Stop @ $59.89 We sold this back in January for a nice profit right at this same level. The past six months it has chopped along sideways while the overall stock market has crashed. We still believe LIT provides a good long-term investment, and should perform nicely when the markets begin to move up again.
Bought 10% DAL @ $30.15 Stop @ $28.69 Target @ $36.90 Bought 10% TSM @ $86.95 Stop @ $83.79 Target @ $96.30 Markets are holding today’s gains pretty well so far. We’re going to take a couple of small positions in different sectors this afternoon. We still aren’t expecting a huge market rally, but we could see some upside for a bit. It can definitely feel as if you are “catching a falling knife” right … read more Trade Alert
Bought 15% OIH @ $246.90 Stop @ $233.49 Target @ $311.90 The oil chart gave us a nice pullback and now a Kiss-50 trade setup. We don’t believe any of the supply side issues have been resolved with regards to oil, meaning that if demand increases (or is perceived to be increasing) there should still be plenty of upside potential in the market. OIH is an oil services etf which should benefit both from a … read more Trade Alert
Bought 25% QQQ @ $284.14 Stop @ $272.49 Target @ $315.00 Starter position here following the Fed’s .75 rate hike announcement. The chart is putting in a Double-B low, giving us a decent entry near the lows, if this in fact turns out to be the market lows for now.
